The service is prompt and location is great. The food is tasteless and not fresh at all. I can't comment on desert, because my wife and I lost appetite after a pasta and chicken dish. The soup was tasty, so this place deserves at least a star.

It's hard these days to find a decently priced restaurant that offers fresh, home made foods. They don't just crack open a jar of peppers they marinate them, they roast them, well...you get it. It is a family run place, not a huge corporation. It is BYOB, friendly, and a nice switch in cuisine. I recommend the Maza platter so you can get a great sampling of foods. It's a great place to go with vegetarians or vegans

Great family-owned place. I am vegan and there are always plenty of options for me here. The falafel, grape leaves, hummus, etc can't be beat. Very affordable too since it's a byob. Cozy atmosphere.

We had heard several good things about this place, and it definitely lived up to our expectations. The atmosphere is cozy - there is seating available outside, inside and upstairs. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. BYOB - no corking fee. The crab cake was a special and we got it along with the falafel shrimp - both were delicious. The crab cake had NO filler, only crab and veggies. Our entrees, asparagus and prosciutto ravioli and steak kabobs were equally exceptional. We look forward to returning.

I was unfortunately disappointed with this place. The food was good over all, and came out in a rather timely fashion. The servers were rather laid back and pretty chill, which is sometimes okay. We had a reservation for 8 people, and only 6 showed up. I was mortified though at 1 hour and 45 minutes, we got our check, (almost $200, and its a BYOB), and then were asked rather swiftly TWICE, by 2 different servers, if we were about ready to leave, because they had double booked our table with another reservation and needed to turn the tables for it. I don't blame the servers, as they tried to do it as nicely as possible. I was very upset that management could not come over and explain the situation and ask us. Why would you double book a large party like ours, and then ask us to leave? Especially when we spent as much money as we did? Offer the people that did not have a table yet complimentary appetizers because of your mistake, don't ask your current patrons to leave! Because of this, I will not go back unfortunately. It's a shame, because the food and atmosphere was rather decent.

Awesome Chicken Kabobs - chicken is marinated perfectly! Kabobs come with grilled veggies and hummus, which are also very good. Definitely one of the best dinners I've had in WC. Portions are not huge (which I like). Atmosphere is ok; upstairs better than downstairs.

Stopped by for lunch today and had the Lamb gyro. All ingredients were super fresh and the lamb is local/grass fed. This is not your traditional gyro with sliced meat that tastes artificial. The meat is chopped and presented in a charred wrap with diced tomatoes, lettuce, diced onions and a home made tzatziki which perfectly coats the meat - it's not thick like traditional tzatziki. Five stars. Best gyro I have had to date.

healthiest food in west chester, great family run community oriented restaurant, second oldest restaurant in west chester, great setting, what more could you want! The menu is americanized but still very traditional for you foodies as they did a great job creating this unique gem of West Chester! I would suggest going for a date night and remember to pick some wine on your way there!

I've a very limited experience with Mediterranean food, but my wife and I went here for Lunch. We both ordered off the Dinner menu instead of the lunch menu (which is limited). I ordered the Lamb Kabob with red beans and rice. It was excellent. I also tried my wifes Hummus that came with her Veggie Kabob and am now officially hooked on the stuff. It was very quiet during a weekday lunch and only one other table was seated. In speaking with the owner (who was very friendly), they do more dinner business. It's a bit pricey for a lunch, but very reasonable for a special lunch or normal dinner. I'm looking forward to going back to try the other dishes.

Overall terrible experience. Went to the Mediterranean in West Chester with my fiancé for our first Valentine's Day together since we got engaged. We'd been there before and thought it was great, but were severely disappointed. After waiting to be seated (with reservations) it took 25 minutes for a waitress to see us. Despite asking, we weren't given wine glasses or bread for an extra 15. After waiting 1 hour and 15 minutes for our food, we asked the manager politely if we should add more to the meter. The manager rolled his eyes at us and stormed off. After 15 more minutes (now here a total of an hour and a half) we heard a loud crash downstairs, then overheard our food spilled from a busboy. The waitress, for the first time, told us our food would take a while, without explanation. After finally getting our food, we left disappointed with our Valentine's Day ruined. Never going back, and would not recommend.

I was working in the area and did a search for Middle Eastern, my favorite kind of food. Found this place and looked at menu and saw the prices were a little high but figured it's fresh and in a high rent district. Stopped in for some take out on a Friday. The place was pretty dead, one table. I ordered hummus and a tradition gyro. I inquired about a coke or something, but was told they "no longer serve carbonated beverages. For health reasons, ya know?" Great food ideologues! She offered some tea, but I declined. My order was done in about 5 minutes. When I got to my work truck to eat, there was no pita bread for my hummus, but vegetables! Who serves hummus without pita bread? I used the vegetables to eat the hummus. Then used my gyro as a shovel and finally finished it with the bed of lettuce at the bottom. There's plenty of restaurants in the area. Next time I'll do Mexican.

Come for the food. They always use fresh and local as much as possible. My family loves this place. We go, bring a bottle of wine, and have a great meal. The best thing is we never feel stuffed or guilty when we leave, even if we ate a lot. It is a small place and they cook everything to order, so if it's busy, prepare to wait - bring an extra bottle of wine. Deserts are homemade too - don't forget about them. Sitting outside in the nice weather is a treat. Upstairs can be noisy when it's busy. Falafel encrusted shrimp and humus are great. Filet mignon is great if they have it as a special. We normally opt for the fresh seafood entrees. The caesar salad is the best - just prepare for lots of fresh garlic if you order it.

Went here with three others on a Saturday recently. I'd heard and read so much about the place and it did not disappoint. Our waiter was young but very polite and efficient. It is an old house so there is a tremendous warmth and character to the place. We all had starters and entrees and everyone loved them. Unfortunately we had dessert plans but they looked amazing and I'll definitely try next time.

The Mediterranean is West Chester's best kept secret! Nestled in the midst of college pubs and yuppie-ville styled restaurants is the blink-and -you -passed-it gem of a restaurant. It is a very narrow building and if weren't for the wonderfully displayed windows and cutest signage, a hand painted wooden sign simply stating, "The Med", one could pass by in the blink of an eye or 2. I have been a customer for years Nd is my go-to for business lunches, meeting up with old friends, and family molestion events. I have tried nearly everything on the menu and would recommend everything! My favs are- Apps- Hummus- smooth, light, creamy Maza Platter-HUGE assorted apps of your choice (4) and pita. Enough for 2-4 ppl. Lunch-Lamb kabobs-with 2 choice of rice pilaf (The Med's style) or red beans, and a yummy Greek salad or mixed sautéed veggies. Dinner-Kibbi Platter- lean ground lamb, caramelized onions, pine nuts. Served with hummus AND tabouli AND choice of rice. Dessert-Baklava with pistachio ice cream! The apple pie is or the best of too!! Give it a try, the owners are very accommodating. On one visit I wanted a certain herbal tea, Margaret, (the owner) actually went to the store to get the tea! Isn't that hospitable!

The food was wonderful; fresh and light bread served with delicious sesame and olive dipping oil. The falafel was some of the best I've had, it was really moist and crunchy. The lamb and grass fed filet mignon were so tender and flavorful. The only downfall of the place was the dessert and Turkish coffee. The baklava was sub par; it had granulated sugar and cinnamon, which I didn't like, and the Turkish coffee was just regular coffee served in a Turkish coffee pot. As a Turk, I didn't enjoy the coffee because I was expecting real Turkish coffee. Other than that, I recommend for excellent food

Very disappointed. The Med was our go to BYOB but we'll be thinking twice after our experience last night. Recieved water and wine glasses 20 minutes after we asked for them - after sitting for 10 minutes. Over an hour and a half for our food. No one came back to see if we needed anything at any point in time unless we flagged them down. Falafel was very hard like it sat under heat lamp too long. They ran out of rice and pita bread. Ugh, won't be going back.

I was visiting my parents for my Mom's birthday and was blown away by this place! First, the place is very cute and cosy. Second, it is a small local business run by a family and everyone was extremely friendly and took great care in serving us; great hospitality. Lastly, and most importantly, THE FOOD! I had the falafel encrusted chicken and my mouth is watering just thinking about it as I write this. Also, they treated my mom to a chocolate cake with a fruit filling and it was one of the best cakes I've ever had. I am getting married this fall and we joked about having it for the wedding cake! I highly recommend this place! Delicious!

Where do I begin... After a gorgeous day at the Longwood Gardens my boyfriend and I wanted a fairly casual BYOB night out. After reviewing Faunbrook's catalog of local menus, we decided the Mediterranean would suit us well. Their menu seemed great and the reviews, fair enough to give it a try. We showed up 10 minutes early for our reservation time only to have confused the wait staff as to where we should be seated. Outside? Downstairs? Upstairs? Where?! So we finally say upstairs after requesting outside only to be told "yes we have a table... Oh wait no we don't..." We arrive upstairs to find the noisiest of noise levels. We have to yell to hear each other. After waiting 10 minutes with no glasses, no napkins and no silverware, we flagged down someone who seemed like a busboy to get us some glasses for our wine. He brought us 2 cheap plastic champagne glasses. Thanks... Then another 15 or so minutes go by with not even an acknowledgement from any staff member. Finally some young girl brings us pita bread and some gooey green dip which was a far cry from pesto if that's what it was supposed to be. We requested that we finally place our order and she said "sure let me go get your server." Another 5 minutes down and frustrated we finish our champagne glass of wine and the "busboy" comes over an says "so do you wanna hear the specials?" Surprise!! The guy who gave us crappy glasses, no water and no utensils was our server who couldn't care less about how long we waited. Without a second more we said we were just going to leave and he said "ok..." Took our pita bread and dip and walked away without an apology or anything. We walked 30 feet to the Olive Branch and had an impeccable meal with top notch service. Long story short... Don't waste your time. Unless you are looking for a place to sit and have a glass of your own wine... Then go right ahead!

Excellent from beginning to end! Grape leaf and falafel appetizers were fresh, tasty, and served promptly on a great night to dine outside. Our waiter David was attentive and the young girl who assists was timely and pleasant as well. We both opted for kabobs. One lamb, one chicken, we're very tasty, well seasoned, and accompanied with either beans or humus. Very satisfied. A little Turkish coffee and fresh baklava at the end of out meal was perfect!

Came here for lunch with my mom. We both liked the food, and the service was pretty good. I think the interior could use an updating - it is very dark and a bit dreary which makes it seem dusty when it wasn't. We both had the pumpkin soup which was very good, filled with chunks of mushrooms, carrots and other veggies. I had the spinach salad which I would get again but ask for the dressing on the side. By the time I got to the bottom, it was quite soggy. Mom got the greek chicken salad and loved it.

I do like Mediterranean and middle east food. It is something that can be fantastic if done right. The place: The atmosphere is friendly . It's small with two levels. The first floor is nice if you sit right in front of the windows other wise you feel like your in a hallway going into the kitchen. The upstairs is a better bet. Could use a bit more attention to detail through out. The food: The menu is uninspired and offers some staples of Mediterranean fair. The claim to be be in the style of Italian and Lebanese- not so sure. The food was good, we got the falafel and the Kibbi platter. Both were good but not outstanding. They tasted fresh and well made. The pita that comes with the meal is a bit thin for dipping which is a shame as the dips were all very good. The service: Service was good. The server was personable and friendly. Not the quickest or the most knowledgeable, but better the average. Bottom line: I would go back, but not high on the list as I have had better Mediterranean experiences. Not sure if I would take guests as it's just not that interesting.

Tasty food and groovy little atmosphere! I am definitely a snob when it comes to treats such as hummus and tabouli, so when I discovered this place and the wonderful appetizers it serves, I was thrilled. Everything is always fresh and presented with a touch of creativity. Try the soups. You won't be sorry. Stuffed grape leaves are heavenly. The entrees I've occasionally tried have all been top-notch. Service is usually a local college student trying to make it through the semester, so be generous with your tip. Recommended.

Food, eh. I could have gotten the same meal for half the price at Cedars Cafe in Frazer. Two dinners, chicken on one, ground lamb on the other, 2 coffees and two desserts, all for the low low price of $72.

We stopped here on the way home from Delaware, in torrential rains, but the freshness of the food and the many healthy vegan choices made this small restaurant a true pleasure. We opted to go upstairs, which is more intimate. Our server handled our wine quickly and knew a lot about the food's ingredients and preparation. The Gay Street area has many other restaurants that looked good too. The falafel was some of the lightest and freshest I have tasted, and the rice lentil pilaf was served with a very tasty tart cabbage salad, which we have unsuccessfully tried to replicate at home. A parsnip soup was blended to a puree and was a delicious alternative to the usual lentil soups we cannot resist. Good low lighting, soft Mediterranean music, candles, and hand-painted walls added to the relaxing atmosphere. People will surely bash me for this, but I don't understand parents bringing toddlers to small, quiet adult restaurants like this. Yes, kids should be exposed to new things, but can a 3-year-old really appreciate a relaxed-paced falafel dinner? None I know can, and the banging and loud talking can really spoil the mood for other adults who are only feet away, sometimes inches. I guess I just have to start going to dinner much much later. One last curmudgeonly comment: Cute or not, kids should never be permitted to stand on chairs. Their shoes walk on the same slop on the street that mine do, and a fall could of course be very dangerous. Just another sign that dinner for the poor bored kid is taking too long and that a more child-oriented place is a better choice for now. Rant off.

Food is consistently done to perfection. I have come here 5-8 times a year for the past 6 years and never been disappointed. This isn't gourmet, just excellent food to have with a nice bottle of wine (byob). Friendly staff, Try the turkish coffee and baklava.

This is a nice restaurant to come to once in a while, if you like middle eastern food. Maybe even more if you like Middle Eastern food on the Main Line. Not many places for it or authentic. This is a small restaurant. Make a reservation for the weekends. I like to sit upstairs as it is much cozier. Though unfortunately it also is noisier. It was rather cold too. But hey, it's winter. The waitress was very pleasant and was able to make suggestions for our meal. Bread and pita came with a dish of olive oil and spices. It basically was plain bread and plain pita. I had the seafood bisque soup (nothing to write home about) and friends had the mushroom vegetable soup (they enjoyed it very much). We had the salmon and rice pilaf which was very tasty and the scallops over greens with tomatoes and cucumbers. Since I am sensitive to spices, the waitress substituted a lemon vinaigrette sauce. The scallops were grilled and delicious with the sauce. We asked about dessert and I'm not sure if I got this right??? But were told they had baklava. And we said.........................and? The reply was baklava. And ice cream. Well we went on a Tuesday night so maybe they were out of items? Go on a weekend night when they are stocked up if you want to try this out. I go here every once in a while. A plus is this is a BYOB.

What an adorable restaurant - feels like a cozy little cottage. There is outdoor seating in the beauty that is downtown West Chester (in the summer months of course). Or you can sit inside downstairs, or inside upstairs. On one of my visits, I was lucky enough to sit in front of a big open window upstairs - lots of fresh air. I've only ever been here for lunch, but this place is definitely a gem. The staff is great - always super friendly and welcoming. I love their olive and feta cheese starter plate - to die for. I've also had the veggie pita wrap, and I've had the falafel as well. Both were wonderful and tasted amazingly light and fresh. This spot became one of my favorite weekday lunch establishments. I highly recommend giving it a try, especially for vegetarians / vegans - lots of options!

Awesome! Greek/Lebanese food. Yummy! Get the grape leaves! Get the chicken kabobs! If the have fresh baklava GET IT! Turkish Coffee for two is awesome!!!! Specials are good, and change week to week. Seating is tricky if you are looking for romantic, try to sit up stairs, unless big party, then it's too loud.

A few friends and I negotiated long and hard and ended up on this restaurant. A major selling point for us was that one of us is a vegetarian, and there are a lot of vegetarian options available. The place is a very small establishment in the heart of downtown West Chester (the Borough). The place is very cute; a lot of work went into painting and stenciling the walls. There are also a few original drawings hanging on the walls. We were shown to an upstairs table. One major drawback was that the upstairs room was chilly. On a previous visit (pre-Yelp), I remember it being absolutely freezing. This time it was not quite as bad. Our server was super friendly, and it turned out that she was a great recommender of dishes. The dishes she recommended were incredible. They started us out with pita and warm rolls. Also, a dish full of olive oil, spices and sesame seeds. This was amazing! We ordered the pesto pita appetizer. It was like a pita pizza with olive oil, pesto, feta cheese, garlic and tomatoes. Totally YUMMY! Probably my 2nd favorite dish of the night. Of course, the question is what was my 1st favorite? I ordered the Kibbi Dish (I think I spelled that correctly) that is supposed to be a popular favorite. It came with a side of yogurt, hummus and salad. It also came with strips of peppers, cucumber and olives. Everything was good, but the hummus was a standout; it was very smooth and creamy. It also came with what can only be described as lamb meatloaf. This was also very good, a little dry, although I do not think it is fair to take off points because I suspect it is supposed to be eaten with the wet sides. There were onions and pine nuts in the lamb-loaf as well. But not my 1st favorite. My friends ordered a fall salad on the specials menu, but I forgot to ask for a bite. Friend #2 ordered a salmon that was citrus roasted with sides of purple cauliflower and rice pilaf. I also did not ask for a bite; mostly because Friend #3's dish was similar and I stole bites of hers. The rice pilaf was okay, but I thought it was on the verge of being underdone. It was a bit hard. The side that was picked (instead of the purple cauliflower) was a Swiss chard. This was incredible! It was perfectly cooked with olive oil and garlic. But not a 1st favorite, a close 3rd. The salmon was prepared with roasted beets. Yes, beets! Believe it or not, this was my 1st favorite! I never cared for beets, but our server said the same, she never cared for beets either until she had these beets. She was right on the money! These were delicious, melt in your mouth beets, and the best part is that they were prepared with honey. The honey made it even more melt in your mouth delicious with a touch of great deliciousness. All 4 of us also split the gigantic apple pie dessert. I have to admit, when I read on the menu that it was a gigantic piece of pie, I thought it would be a bit bigger. The piece was big, just not quite as big as the advertisement made it seem like. However, it was good. The filling was tart and not overly sweet (even though that is a minus in my book, I think most people would consider this a plus). The crust was deliciously flavored with what I believe is cream cheese. Unfortunately it was a bit hard and the texture was off. The ice cream (we got it ala mode), was amazing. It was super creamy, and tasted like it could possibly be homemade. Yum! What lost them a star (in addition to the little things stated above) was that the prices, comparably speaking, were a bit high. The ingredients were very fresh, but the portions were on the small side. Reasonably sized, but on the small side.

Service is horrible...over an hour wait after we ordered. Also portions are a complete rip off for the price.

Love the food here. NEVER dissapoints. It has become a little more expensive than it was in the past, but I guess everything has. Very friendly owner/staff and the atmosphere is great.

The service is prompt and location is great. The food is tasteless and not fresh at all. I can't comment on desert, because my wife and I lost appetite after a pasta and chicken dish. The soup was tasty, so this place deserves at least a star.

Great family-owned place. I am vegan and there are always plenty of options for me here. The falafel, grape leaves, hummus, etc can't be beat. Very affordable too since it's a byob. Cozy atmosphere.
